50 THC drinks down: key takeaways from our reviews.

1. Real brands are being built

The cannabis drinks landscape is evolving beyond mere beverage creation, with brands emerging that prioritize differentiation and genuine connection with consumers. Crafting an exceptional cannabis drink is just the first step; establishing a brand identity that resonates deeply with consumers and fosters unwavering brand loyalty is what will distinguish the triumphant brands from those that fade away. Brands that are catching our eye:

Rebel Rabbit is deliberately going after those who are looking for an alternative to alcohol with their rebellious line of drinks. We like the defiance “In a world glamorized by alcohol, WE ARE THE REBELS” which comes through consistently in all their brand communications.

Fable has done an excellent job building a premium ready-to-drink cocktail that truly differentiates in a category where so many drinks look and taste the same. The also focus on an evening usage occasion… happy hour, dinner parties and night caps when everyone else is focused on daytime drinking.

Cycling Frog is on a meteoric rise, captivating taste buds with their expanding line of seltzer flavors solidifying their position as a frontrunner in the cannabis-infused beverage industry. We really like Cycling Frog’s premium branding and thoughtful approach to portfolio creation.

Brez has taken the world of THC beverages by storm in a short space of time. Their diverse range of products from THC drinks, functional beverages and even non dosed options has fueled their growth. They got their direct-to-consumer ecosystem humming early on, and are now expanding rapidly into retail.

2. A THC drink for every occasion

As the THC drinks market flourishes, a wave of thoughtfully designed beverages tailored to specific consumer occasions and needs are emerging. Some notable mentions:

Happi has created a portfolio of drinks for every moment. They have Glow for calm. Nightcap for Sleep. And four other flavors for any time drinking.

Weller’s Topical Punch Reset is boosted with L-Theanine to help relax the mind and body. Their Wild Blackberry Relax has magnesium to help you unwind and reduce anxiety, and their Raspberry Lime Revv has green tea caffeine which will leave you feeling uplifted and energized.

There is now a range of non-alcoholic cocktails including Pamo’s Mai Tai, Flyer’s Ol’ Fashioned and Drinkin’ Buds Rum Punch. And drinks inspired by classic cocktails like the Moscow Mule and Margarita with Plift Crisp Ginger and Plift Tart Lime.

Thunder Pop is a high-dose energy drink with caffeine that is perfect for gamers or those who want to party the night away.

And then there’s Realize Drink Mix flavors which come in pouches making them ideal to take with you to a concert or in your travel bag.

3. The visual language of weed

There are two emerging visual branding strategies. Some brands are explicitly using cannabis cues on their packaging, while others are steering clear. There is no right or wrong approach, but it is worth considering whether brands with explicit cues are limiting their growth potential by alienating certain consumer segments. For example, some consumers, such as soccer moms, may not be ready or willing to have drinks with weed labels on them prominently displayed in their fridges.

4. A great alternative to alcohol

Many of the cannabis drinks on the market now have under 25 calories in them, including Weller, Rebel Rabbit, Happi and TBD. And many have no preservatives, are non-GMO, and use organic ingredients. WYNK’s light and bubbly seltzers have zero calories and zero sugar.

This truly makes cannabis drinks a better alternative to alcohol. And, of course, you won’t wake up with a hangover or do any damage to your body like you would when drinking alcohol.

5. The drinks are getting better

And by better, we mean they taste better. For a while the industry got caught up in the Dollar to THC game: the more THC in each drink was viewed as the winning formula, with taste being an afterthought. But this is a fundamentally flawed concept. No one walks into a liquor store and buys their wine or beer based on the highest alcohol content (well, most people don’t). Consumers want great tasting, quality drinks that also provide a buzz. Here are just a few of the great-tasting thc drinks we’ve tried:

Cann’s Blood Orange Cardamom, Weller’s Wild Blackberry and Cycling Frog’s Ruby Grapefruit should be in everyone’s fridge.

Fable’s Into The Woods, Best Zest and Night Flight flavors are outstanding and a must-try for everyone. They won Platinum and Gold for all 3 of their flavors at the High Spirits Awards for a reason and made a real splash at Aspen’s annual Food and Wine festival.

In summary, the above are just a handful of the thc drinks on the market that have caught our attention (you can see all our THC Drink Reviews here). The category is growing rapidly and with it, a number of fantastic thc-infused drinks are emerging.
