What’s the difference between THC & CBD drinks?

Cannabis plant for CBD and THC drinks

THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol) are two of the most well-known cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. While both compounds are similar in many ways, they differ in their psychoactive effects and legal status. THC is the primary psychoactive compound in cannabis and is responsible for the “high” or euphoric effect associated with marijuana use. On the other hand, CBD does not produce a high and is believed to have a variety of potential therapeutic benefits. In this article, we’re exploring the differences between both, as well as THCV and Hemp-Derived Delta 9 THC variations.

When it comes to THC and CBD drinks, the primary difference is the presence of these cannabinoids. THC drinks contain THC, while CBD drinks contain CBD. Here are some key differences between the two:

  1. Psychoactive effects: THC drinks can produce a high, while CBD drinks do not have psychoactive effects.
  2. Legal status: THC is still classified as a Schedule I substance under U.S. federal law (but is now legal at the state level in over 20 states). Hemp-derived D9 THC is legal under the 2018 Farm Bill.
  3. Medical benefits: While both THC and CBD have potential therapeutic benefits, CBD is often used for its anti-inflammatory, anti-anxiety, and pain-relieving properties, while THC is more commonly used for its psychoactive effects.
  4. Dosage: THC and CBD drinks may have different dosages of each compound. It is important to pay attention to the dosage on the label and start with a low dose, especially if you are new to cannabis drinks (we recommend starting with a drink between 2 – 10 mg THC).
  5. Effects on drug tests: THC can show up on drug tests, while CBD typically does not. If you are subject to drug testing, it is important to be aware of the potential consequences of consuming THC.

Two important THC drink variations

The first is THCV. THCV is a less common strain that supposedly is appetite-curbing (often referred to as ‘diet weed’), has energy-boosting properties and is less intoxicating than THC. Some drinks like Pabst High Seltzer Guava use both THC and THCV in their drinks.

The second is Hemp-derived Delta 9 THC (D9), a newer product that gets around the law. D9 THC beverages are now on the shelves and can be delivered to your door pretty much anywhere in the US. Yip, you heard that right! How is this possible?

The long and the short of it is the 2018 US Farm Bill that legalized hemp defines hemp as any sativa plant that contains less than 0.3% THC. Many consumers associate hemp with CBD, which can easily be extracted from the plant. But the bill allows manufacturers to convert that CBD into other psychoactive cannabinoids including delta 9 THC. The bill states that hemp-derived products must contain less than 0.3% THC on a dry weight basis. At this percentage, you could probably get 1000mg of THC in a single drink! And hence the loophole, and why you see D9 THC drinks today everywhere.

You might be wondering if the taste or effects are different to conventional marijuana based THC. As far we know, hemp-derived D9 THC doesn’t change anything to the flavor of a drink, and the effects (or ‘high’) are the same.

The big question is how will states regulate hemp-derived delta-9 THC. You can see all the D9 drinks for sale on our Buy Online page. All of these D9 beverages can be purchased online and delivered to your door.

Sativa vs Indica strains

The two biggest cannabis strains are Sativa and Indica. The plants differ not only in their physiological effects, but also in their appearance. The biggest difference between these two subspecies of cannabis is in their medical effects and how they influence energy levels and productivity.

Indicas tend to decrease energy and are better for consumption at night, and are known for ‘couch-lock’ (you’re so chilled you can’t get off the couch : ). They are good for chilling, deep relaxation, a good sleeping aid, stress and anxiety relief.

Sativas, are known for being uplifting, cerebral, and energetic. They enhance creativity, focus and productivity, and provide a “body high,” They are more stimulating and help fight depression.

Choose a D9 THC drink based on your needs and preferences

Overall, THC and CBD drinks can offer different effects and benefits. Often the two are combined (hybrid drink) so you get the high from the THC but it’s balanced out with the CBD. It’s important to choose the right drink based on your needs and preferences, and always consume THC or CBD products responsibly and in accordance with local laws.
