Drinking a THC-infused beverage for the first time can be a unique and exciting experience. Unlike smoking or vaping cannabis, which delivers a quick and intense high, THC drinks offer a more gradual and mellow high (and don’t taste like weed!). Here are some common effects you may experience and feel when drinking a THC beverage:
- Relaxation: THC drinks can induce a feeling of relaxation and calmness. This effect can be especially helpful for those experiencing stress, anxiety, or trouble sleeping.
- Euphoria: THC can also produce a sense of euphoria, which can make you feel happy, uplifted, and generally in a good mood.
- Increased appetite: THC is known for inducing hunger or the “munchies,” and this effect can also be present when drinking a THC-infused beverage.
- Mild impairment: Depending on the dosage, THC drinks can impair your motor skills, making it challenging to perform complex tasks
- Drowsiness: In some cases, a THC drink can make you feel drowsy or sleepy, which can be beneficial if you are having trouble sleeping. Some THC drinks counter this by adding CBD. The CBD can ‘block’ side effects like drowsiness
If you are trying a THC drink for the first time, it is important to start with a low dose (we recommend 5mg THC or less) and wait to feel the effects before consuming more. Drinks can take anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour to take effect, so it is essential to be patient and not overdo it. We also never recommend mixing cannabis with alcohol.
Are there any side effects when drinking THC?
In some cases, THC drinks have caused the following side effects (these are usually the exception than the norm, and further supports taking it slow):
- Struggling to Sleep: Some people may actually struggle to fall asleep.
- ‘Cloudy‘ the next day: Whilst you won’t get anymore hangovers (huge bonus)! You may wake up feeling ’cloudy’. This can last for an hour or all morning depending how much you drank
- Red Eyes: Again, depending on how much THC you drink, sometimes you might have slightly red eyes for a few hours the next day
- Headaches: We have had a few people say they got a headache after consumption, and sometimes ringing in the ears
- Anxiety and Paranoia: You might feel a sense of paranoia or anxiety.
If you accidentally overdo it with THC it can be a very unpleasant experience. Often referred to as ‘greening out’, causing uncomfortable physical and psychological symptoms including nausea, dizziness, hallucinations, panic attacks, and vomiting.
If this happens to you remain calm, rest up, drink water and seek medical attention if you feel you need it. Remember THC can take a while to fully take effect (typically up to an hour) so start with a low dosage until you know your tolerance levels as everyone is different.
THC drinks deliver a unique and enjoyable experience
Overall, drinking a THC-infused beverage for the first time should be a unique and enjoyable experience. Take it slow and you’ll have a safe and pleasant experience – one of the huge benefits of drinks with THC is you are in control over how fast you drink them. Anything less than 10mg THC is a good dosage to get a nice high (most of the drinks we review fall into this category, many start with as little as 1mg THC which is considered a micro-dose). We recommend trying one drink less than 5mg THC if it’s your first time, see how you feel, then up the dosage a little more the next time round until you find your sweet spot.
Read the label carefully. Don’t make the mistake trying a 50mg THC drink or 100mg THC drink out of the gate. They are out there, and pack a serious punch.
If you’re looking for a low dose drink that tastes great, a few options include:
- Cann’s Blood Orange Cardamom with 2mg THC + 4mg CBD
- Plift Tart Lime with 4mg THC
- Fable Into The Woods with 5mg THC + 3mg CBD
